On July 2015, Microsoft launched an Operating System that unifies the Windows experience across multiple devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and embedded devices. The release of Windows 10 was marked as the major version of Microsoft, and it was a follow-up of Windows 8, and since then, Microsoft has been releasing versions of updated Windows 10. Microsoft users who have previously been using Windows 7 and 8 can simply upgrade to Windows 8 without performing the re-imaging process. The process of upgrading requires the user to run a Window installer to ensure that the files, applications, and software of the previous version are maintained. All the upgrade guidelines and OS image are available on the Microsoft website.
There are added features that came with this Operating System, first is the Start menu which resembles that of Windows 8 where it allows the users can access to live tiles to view what is trending also on the right side of the panel there is a touch-centric metro interface (Rouse, 2017). Searching functions in both local location and through the website can be done simultaneously on Windows 10. Microsoft edge is used as the default web browser, and it contains very important tools. These tools include Reading View, where users view various websites without the clatter of ads, and Web Notes will enable the Windows users to mark up websites. Cortana is an embedded Microsoft’s digital assistant that is integrated with Being search engine (Rouse, 2017). Also, it supports both voice and text input.
On the security features, Windows 10 allows the use of multifactor-authentication technology; for example, the use of tokens and smart cards. Also, Windows Hello has integrated biometric authentication to Window 10, and now the users can log in to their accounts using fingerprint scan, facial recognition, or iris technology. The operating system comes with virtualization-based security tools including isolated User Mode, Windows Defender Device Guard, and Windows Defender Credential Guard. This makes Windows 10 to secure user data and the Windows processes from malicious attacks. For the protection of data in motion between user’s devices, cloud services, and emails, then Windows 10 has extended support for Bitlocker encryption. Thus, organizations using lower versions of Windows should upgrade to Windows 10 in order to meet key functions.
