During Microsoft’s conference for developers, the company revealed important features that will be implemented in Windows 10 and that should be extremely useful for both users and professional software developers.

Project Reunion

Project Reunion aims to bring together the Universal Windows Platform and Win32 APIs. With this, the company hopes that applications for Windows can run on a greater number of platforms (desktops, laptops, tablets, consoles and, perhaps, smartphones) with easier and improved compatibility (higher performance). If successful, the project will influence end users far more than is usually assumed.

Part of this project also includes the launch of a user interface framework for Windows: WinUI Preview 1.

Power Toys Launcher

If you’ve used macOS , you should remember the system launcher called Spotlight; Microsoft will introduce similar features in Windows 10 with Power Toys. Basically, it will be used to find and open applications, files and other system resources.

Those who have used Linux are also already familiar with the launchers. Several popular distributions include one of these including the interface. It may not seem like it, but it is often much faster to find something using a launcher, than to use the mouse and the file explorer.

Thereafter, Power Toys will be able to accept custom plugins and web search engines.

Windows Terminal for Enterprise 1.0

The Windows Terminal for companies was made available yesterday (19). The application allows the execution of command lines from Windows itself, the Windows Subsystem for Linux and the Azure Cloud Shell.

As the name implies, it is a corporate tool, but it has a flexible and customizable interface, like some Linux distribution terminals, allowing the use of different tabs, panels and colors.

Linux applications with graphical interface

The company announced that Windows 10 will receive resources in Microsoft’s new position on open source software .

The system will have full support for the Linux kernel through the Windows Subsystem for Linux. In addition, it will support Linux applications with graphical interface and hardware acceleration via GPU, for greater performance.
